Wilder
I co-founded a social enterprise for urban greening.

Tate donated unused black metal bins to Wilder: we planted them up to provide forage for rare bees.

We supplied Tate with three olive trees – repurposed as ‘wish trees’ – for Tate Modern’s Yoko Ono exhibition

We researched, wrote and produced comprehensive biodiversity action plans for Tate Modern, Tate Britain, Tate St Ives and Tate Liverpool, consulting experts including Buglife, the RSPB and the Arboricultural Office at Royal Parks. Taking as our starting point the species identified by the relevant local councils for their importance and conservation value, we assessed base-line biodiversity at each site and came up with targeted species action plans. Suggestions included site-specific planting plans, the use of wildlife-sensitive lighting, involving the community in food growing and engaging visitors with environmental art projects.

Wilder created a Gaia garden at Southwark Cathedral, to mark the return of the Gaia exhibition. The garden echoes the shape of our earth. We commissioned round planters and used perennial plants – all with globe-shaped blooms. The garden is watered using the ancient olla system: round terracotta pots are buried in the soil, and filled with water which then disperses slowly, reducing water use and keeping the plants healthy.

Circular planters were filled with Allium ‘Millenium, Carex testacea, devil’s bit scabious, Echinacea ‘Rubinstern’ , Echinacea ‘White Swan', Echinops ritro, Hakonechloa macra, Lonicera japonica, Passiflora edulis, pennyroyal, Sanquisorba ‘Tanna’, sedum ‘purple emperor’, Stipa tenuissima, thrift and yarrow.
